The 14th Annual Peel Chestnut Mountain Pumpkin Festival

Saturday - October 13, 2007 - 10am to 5pm

It's that time of year again!  It's time for the 14th Annual Peel Chestnut Mountain Pumpkin Festival!  Come and meet old friends from all over the United States!  And be ready to make new ones!  There will be crafts, live music, flea market vendors, food and fellowship!  If for no other reason, come for the World Famous fried bologna sandwiches!  Make plans now to come and enjoy yourself!

As you know, we've met at the Opera House on the Friday night before the Pumpkin Festival for the past several years for fun, music, food and fellowship!  Due to problems at the Opera House, this year we will gather at the Bluefield Elks.  Come around 6:30 or 7 and plan on a fun time!

Russell Synan of Peel Chestnut Mountain started this Pumpkin Festival 14 years ago.  Although it started out small, it has grown to have upwards to a 1000 visitors each year.  Some make this an annual fall event.  Some plan their trips back home to the area around the weekend of the Pumpkin Festival.  It is visited by old friends and classmates of Pocahontas High School and neighbors from all over the US.  Of course, everyone is a neighbor on Peel Chestnut Mountain!

There is gospel and bluegrass music all day long.  Door prizes, pumpkin painting and hayrides are available for the young and the young at heart.  There are flea market items/crafts/books and even small animals for sale or maybe even for free.  Plenty of food (fried bologna sandwiches - fried apples pies) and much, much more.  There is usually a large, or should we say, a VERY large pumpkin of about 600 lbs. on display.

A good time can be had by all!
