Welcome to the Peel Chestnut Mountain Home Page!
Russell Synan of Peel Chestnut Mountain started this Pumpkin Festival 17 years ago. Although it started out small,
it has grown to have upwards to a 1000 visitors each year. Some make this an annual fall event. Some plan their
trips back home to the area around the weekend of the Pumpkin Festival. It is visited by old friends and classmates
of Pocahontas High School and neighbors from all over the US. Of course, everyone is a neighbor on Peel Chestnut Mountain!
There is gospel and
bluegrass music all day long. Door prizes, pumpkin painting and hayrides are available for the young and the young at
heart. There are flea market items/crafts/books and even small animals for sale or maybe even for free. Plenty
of food (fried bologna sandwiches - fried apples pies) and much, much more. There is usually a large, or should we say,
a VERY large pumpkin of about 600 lbs. on display.
I just wanted to let you all know that I got real hungry when I started reading about
the bologna sandwiches. Wish I had one to eat right now.Hope all is well and the only comment I
wanted to make about the home-place was to say that my favorite uncle lives there and I wish I was with him right now and
of course his great wife Pat.You see the most fun I have ever had in life was the fun I had as a child
working and playing on top of Peel Chestnut Mountain at the Synan home-place!!!
